Sell Yourself, But Don't Cross The Line

The other day I read a resume that started "Fiercely intelligent professional..." There are just some things you need to lead the reader to think, but you can't outright say. I would say “fiercely intelligent” squarely falls in that category. A resume needs to be bold and even a bit boastful. This is not the time to shy away from selling yourself or highlighting the unique value that you represent. However, you have to do it tactfully or readers will simply move on.

Remember, regardless of the position, people hire people they want to work with. Confidence and a solid record of accomplishments makes you sound like someone easy to work with – someone who will get the job done. However, cross the line and you can sound like a difficult braggart. No one wants to work with that person.
