I am always surprised to continually hear from people who randomly send out a bunch of resumes and feel surprised that they haven't heard back from employers. Of course, success using that method can – and does – happen, but not as often as it did in the old days. You know... when the economy was stable.
Bottom line. An outstanding resume is a key piece of the job search / career management process – but only a piece. To be accurate, I think a killer resume is the foundation, which I get into all over this website.
So, given that fact – and at the urging of colleagues and clients – I produced a guide that addresses what to do once you have that stellar resume in your hands. It's called: Beyond an Outstanding Resume.
Because it's still being fine tuned, I started including it as a standard part of all resume writing projects at no additional cost. The response has been overwhelmingly positive. People want (and should have) an effective resume and additional tools/ideas that set them up for success. One client said:
I know the tips you provide in your guide may seem basic to you, but I had never even thought of a few of them. Furthermore, the way you organize the activities as progressive tasks that build upon each other is extremely helpful.
Your career management approach needs to go beyond submitting resumes and crossing fingers. The guide provides 12 steps that, when completed, will lead to more job search success and, ultimately, more career fulfillment.
Good news! The guide will continue to be complimentary this month and through the second quarter of 2012.
